June was a big month for wildlife in my yard. I chose not to post the hawk swooping down right in front of me last Friday taking the baby bunny that brought me so much joy. As with every scene in nature there's the pleasant and unpleasant, they all have their young to feed. It was sad to see, but I'm pleased to share the other side of the circle of life below.
I noticed this little guy looking rather lost, looking left and then right with that pouty little beak and his downy feathers. Then suddenly mom swooped in to feed him. He couldn't fly, he would just try to follow her and keep up, then he'd fall behind again and she'd come back and redirect him. This is the sweet side of wildlife that I enjoy capturing!

The "beautiful" Baby Naavah

Last night was the baby naming for the beautiful Baby S. Jack and Alison did so well up at the podium sharing their love for their beautiful daughter and each other.
It was a joyous evening and I was so happy to see people I haven't seen in years as well as the new people I met.
It was a real honor to be present for such a special occassion.

Four new babies!
Last night, just before dark, I was working in my office and there was a baby rabbit sitting outside my window eating, when suddenly the rabbit just took off.
A minute or two passed and then I saw what the commotion was all about. I saw an adult raccoon. I thought it was odd to see her before it was completely dark, but there she was--I went back to my work when suddenly I see four little ones in tow! Here are two that posed for me.

Gotta love that face!

It's been a while since I posted... I captured this little guy this morning. He appears to me to be a cross between a Jack and Cottontail, although I'm not sure. His ears are unusually long compared to all the others in our yard. It's becoming a rabbit sanctuary here. New ones every week and I have to say, they bring me so much joy!
Everyone who knows me, knows that I'm passionate about nature and wildlife and last week about 10 p.m. I saw a coyote pup walk right past my office window. When I saw one of the other motion lights come on toward the back of the property and looked out there to see what was going on, I saw a pack of coyotes; four that I counted. I know they were here for the rabbits and I secretly hoped my little ones would be safe that night and when I woke up the next morning, there was one of the tiniest gobbling down tufts of grass, I was relieved...
The neighbors took down some trees last week, so they can plant apple trees and I'm sure we have some of the rabbits that were living in their yard over here now. I noticed yesterday that the rabbits have a new path they've created right in front of my office window--where the bobcat once would lie in wait for squirrels. The most adorable thing I've seen since living here (10 years now) is the tiniest rabbits of the bunch jumping up or down two-railroad ties to make their way through their new path, it's simply adorable!

New baby rabbit
We have a new and I might add "brave" baby on the block. This little guy was born about 10 days ago. We're just amazed at how brazen he is--and he's out far from his hole at all hours of the day and night.

This photo is not the best quality, but with these babies, if you can't photograph them next to something to show a sense of scale, then the only way to see they are young is by looking at their ears, so in the photos below, I was lucky enough to capture mom and baby in the same frame. In the other one, I captured a sparrow and the rabbit in the same frame. This should show how really small and cute these little guys are.
Last night one of the "twins" as we like to refer to the racoon's wasn't at all interested in the little rabbit, but they were both outside well after dark foraging for food in close proximity to one another.
