Big bull elk with moulting antlers

We went back up yesterday to see if we could find the elk grazing in the field and we did find them and this time I believed they were within range of my lens, so I grabbed my tripod and camera and made an attempt to create some images.

It was a little awkward parking on the side of the road--and even though we were pulled well out of the way of traffic on the two-lane road, passersby were honking their horns and yelling out there window. It's probably a good thing we couldn't hear what they were yelling. It didn't take long before the elk drew a small audience. Everyone was well off the road and not impeding traffic.

Since this is my blog and I can spout off (although I never have before) "Lighten up people! It's not every day that you get to see such majestic animals in the lowlands of our area."

I love the little head poking up from the grass. Your pictures are wonderful! I can see the fur on the antlers! I didn't know Elk had furry antlers! That makes me like elk more than I did 5 minutes ago :)
