Emma | Sammamish High School 2016 Senior | Urban Session

Emma chose to book two sessions for her senior portraits, a rural session, which you may view here. I think both sessions very much reflect her personality. Maybe she gets it from her parents, her dad coming from a rural town in Western Washington and her mom has a blend of city girl loving the hustle and bustle of the city and the country girl who had a few horses in her lifetime. I think adding the second urban session is very much a part of who Emma is and where she wants to go in the future.

It was an overcast day, beautiful for portraits, but just 10 minutes after we finished the skies opened up and it was raining so hard!  We were not in an area where we could pull over and wait it out. There was so much water standing on the road that the cars ahead of us kicked up so much water it completely covered my windshield--very, very scary!

Emma did not panic, I know both of us were saying something and repeating ourselves the whole time we couldn't see a thing -- maybe "Oh my God!" over and over, but I know she helped me remain calm so we could get through it.

Bellevue Photographer | Meet Suzanne!

Meet Suzanne!

She's a very creative and talented local fiber artist and you can see her latest display of urban knitted trees titled,  "Artificial Light" in Redmond's Anderson Park.

While driving past the park last week I saw  this fabulous splash of color!  I wondered about the work involved to create this kind of art?  Not only the knitting, but how one goes about getting these on the trees?   I was sure they needed to be hand stitched to each tree…  and this is how I met Suzanne.

I was there to take photographs of this unique display of color when I saw Suzanne up on a ladder hand stitching one to a tree and introduced myself.   She was so kind to stop and answer a few of my questions.  I was curious about how she makes these and what gave her the idea for such a creative undertaking and installation that surely appears to be quite labor intensive?  Suzanne says it takes her about 12-hours to complete one piece and even though she uses a knitting machine, "it's quite an aerobic workout!"

They were previously on display in Occidental Park in Seattle.   One of her goals is to draw people into our local parks by making them inviting with the fabulous splash of color and a welcoming atmosphere to spend time with family, friends and maybe even meet new people.   Well, it certainly worked for me!

It was a pleasure to meet Suzanne, she is warm and friendly and I thank her for taking the time to talk with me.  The Artificial Light display will be in Anderson Park in Redmond until June 2012, go check it out!

My Beautiful Muse... Miss E.

Muse: The source of an artist's inspiration.

Her patience and willingness to work with me has made me a better photographer and for this I am so grateful!

Miss E is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. There are no boundaries for her, the sky is the limit and I look forward to seeing what life has in store for her.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
